Introduction to Indoor Climbing

This course is designed as an introduction to the sport of rock climbing with an emphasis on climbing for enjoyment and health. This course will cover the basic skills needed for technical rock climbing, including safety considerations, climbing techniques, use of equipment, basic knots, belaying, and rappelling. No experience necessary. Register by Thursday before the event. Located at the SRC and SRC West Rock Walls.

The Multicultural Center and CAPS have partnered to provide a weekly support group for Women of Color. The focus of the group is to provide a safe space and supportive atmosphere where Women of diverse backgrounds can engage in open discussions related to their experiences on campus, challenges, and concerns about local and/or national issues. This group is also an opportunity to network and meet other Women of Color on campus. Topics include but are not limited to: academics, relationships, racism, values, etc.

Coffee and tea will be available, and please feel free to bring your lunch.

Cuban percussionist and singer Pedrito Martinez leads a high-voltage ensemble whose main mission is to raise the roof and share in the pure joy of making music. A go-to percussionist for some of the world’s leading musicians, he has collaborated with Paul Simon, Eddie Palmieri, Sting, Wynton Marsalis, and many more. With his own band, Martinez showcases the latest sounds from Cuba, transforming any venue into a lively Havana nightclub in a wave of infectious energy.

Mother Hips

Formed in Chico, CA, in 1991, earthy pop jam rockers, the Mother Hips have attained legendary status in Northern California for their high energy live shows and tuneful compositions. With tight harmonies and country-tinged melodies honoring California's musical past—from Merle Haggard to the Beach Boys to Neil Young, the band has carved its own unique niche in the musical landscape. Celebrating the release of their first new album in many years, the band will perform a special acoustic set followed by a trademark, raucous electric set.

McCrone Honors Reception

The 2018 McCrone Honors Reception will recognize three outstanding HSU professors and one graduate student researcher. The event consists of short research presentations, awards, and light appetizers.

Background: Humboldt State University established the Alistair and Judith McCrone Graduate Fellowship Fund in October 2001. The fund was created to honor Dr. and Mrs. McCrone, who together shepherded Humboldt State University and its students for over a quarter of a century. Their award recognizes one outstanding graduate student, acknowledges their potential, and encourages their continued achievement in their graduate program.

In addition, the outstanding professor awards will recognize HSU’s newer faculty, acknowledge their potential in their field of research, and encourage their continued achievement.
