Biography: 

As Associate Dean, Dr. Heather Madar’s areas of oversight include the following: student concerns, student petitions, new program development, curriculum processes, program review, scheduling, enrollment management.

Before taking on the position of Associate Dean, Dr. Madar served as the chair of the Art department for five years. She has also served on the Integrated Curriculum Committee (ICC), College of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences Budget committee and the Student Success Alliance.

Dr. Madar is a Professor of Art and is an art historian with a particular focus on 16th century German art and more broadly on art of the Northern Renaissance. She has taught classes on Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Islamic art. Her scholarly interests center around prints and print culture in 16th century Germany; art and political ideology; cross-cultural interactions in the Renaissance between Western Europe and the Muslim world and their reflection in visual art. Dr. Madar’s edited book titled Prints as Agents of Global Exchange1500-1800, which examines the global dissemination of European prints in the early modern period, was published by Amsterdam University Press in 2021. Her book Albrecht Dürer and the Depiction of Cultural Differences in Renaissance Europe was published in 2023.

Dr. Madar started as an Assistant Professor at Cal Poly Humboldt in 2006 and is originally from Ontario, Canada.
